God First Life

But seek First the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33

There was a time in my life that God laid this scripture on my heart and I really felt him challenging me to examine my life by it. Am I seeking HIM FIRST in all I do?  What does giving God my first look like?

Was I giving God the first of my day? Most of my mornings are full of busyness, rushing to get where I need to go. Always in a hurry but I knew I needed to start carving out extra time to spend with God.  So for me it started with getting up and spending time with him before my crazy day began, before I do anything else even if it meant losing a little sleep.  Sometimes it is just waking up and saying, Thank you Lord for another day, another breath, now use me today, this is your day.  However it comes, I encourage you to start in some way to give God the first part of your day.  I know for me, it has given me confidence to know that He is directing my steps.

Is He first in my priorities?  Making God first in my priorities and decisions.  Psalm 139 says, He knows everything about me, every moment He knows where we are, He saw us before we were born, every day of our lives was recorded and laid out…Wow! I started understanding those words, that He cares about every detail of my life and wants me to involve Him in them.  Through understanding that, I began to filter all I do with Jesus in mind…WWJD?  Does what I’m doing glorify Him? If not, how can I?

Is He first in my home and marriage?  I started reading and studying God’s word on what a Godly wife and mother looks like. I started praying for my husband instead of griping to him.  Committing to pray for my family every day and eventually praying together as a family.  Asking the Holy Spirit to move in my home. Joshua 24:15-But as for me and my family we will serve the Lord.

Is He first in my finances?  This was a important one and where I actually began with making God first in my life.   Giving God the first in my finances started the change with making Him first in all I do.  Start tithing and be committed to giving every week.  Commit to it and you will begin to see a change within you.  Look at it like it’s HIS anyway, He only asks us for 10%, He allows us to keep 90%.   You may have to make sacrifices but it will be a sacrifice well worth it.  Look at the sacrifice Jesus made for us!

Praying, as we start this year that we would ask God to examine our hearts and show us any areas that we are not making HIM first in.  Lord help us be committed to living a God First Life!

Believing when we make HIM first, “all things shall be added to you”, the rest of it will work out.

In Christ, Michelle
