The Word

It’s amazing how you can read God’s Word over and over and it never grows dull, it never looses its ability to teach us something new or reinforce something we are needing to hear. Just reading five chapters this morning in John, the Lord has shown me numerous truths to apply to my life.

God’s Word encourages us, corrects us, teaches us, guides us to live the life God intended for us to live. I, one time, was studying some leadership material and one thing I remember it saying is, for a leader to be unclear is to be unkind. I have come to understand how true that is. Jesus is the best leader and He is not unclear. His word is clear. Sometimes we just have to slow the pace of life, pull away and clear our mind to read it, asking the Lord to help us understand. When I read the bible in context with our lives it is so clear. It’s our instruction manual for situations we face. I was the queen of reading self help books until I realized I really only need one book and it explains it all front to back. The bible is that good. It excites me every time I read it. I pray every day of my life and yours that excitement over the Word continues grows in us.

Again, His word is so clear and authoritative for our life. There is a story in John 4 where Jesus goes back to Galilee, one of the government officials had heard that He was there and sought Him out, begged Him to come and heal his dying son. He pleaded with Jesus, it says Jesus told him, “Go back home. Your son will live!” Jesus didn’t have to go to the dying son, He spoke and the son was healed. Amazing, right!! Jesus’ words are authoritive. What is says next is, “And the man believed Jesus’ word and started home.” Is this our response to Jesus’s word? We simply believe, he didn’t waiver in his response to believe. He immediately headed home to find out his son was healed and alive just as Jesus had said. Jesus’ words are authoritive, they are clear, they are always true. Will we choose to believe?

Lord, give us a burning desire to know Your Word. Lord, open our minds to understand Your word. I pray the Word comes alive more and more every time we read it. Give us spiritual eyes and ears to see You and come to understand You more as we read the Word. Lord, may we apply Your word to our lives so that we will know what is true and what is not. Lord, teach us to be women of the word. Amen.
