Reading and continuing my study in James this morning. Starting in chapter four today. Goodness, there is just so much in the book of James that we can take and apply to our life but I want to talk about the first couple verses today.
“You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” James 4:2-3 NIV
This past weekend I had the pleasure of chaperoning our youth on a trip. We knew it was going to be a great trip, but my expectations were far exceeded. I had no idea how these kids hungered for the Lord. When I read the above verse this morning about our desires I immediately thought of the kids this weekend. The scripture in verse two says you desire but do not have, but what are you desiring? This weekend, these kids desire was for God. Verse two also says you do not have because you do not ask. When you ask for the things of God we can be assured we receive. These kids were seeking God and He showed up in a mighty way. See, the closer we get to God the more and more our desires become His. These kids desire and hunger for God was amazing. So my question to each of us is, what’s your hearts desire? Is it for more of God? Some of the kids were brought to tears because they wanted more of God. Are you crying out for more of God? When we hunger and desire the things of God we can be assured when we ask we will receive. These kids received this weekend. God poured His spirit out on everyone of them as He will with each of us if we will just ask.
What do we have our minds set on?
What is our hearts desire? For worldly things or the things of God?
Does our heart hunger for more and more of God?
After this weekend my heart hungers for more of God. After watching these kids with such a fire, such a hunger, such a desire for God I’m set on fire for more of God. I hope this encourages someone else to be on fire for God. Draw closer to Him, study His word more, serve Him with more passion and just desire Him above all else in this world. Ask Him to pour His spirit out on you. Desire what He desires!!!
“‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.”
Acts 2:17-18 NKJV
Lord, continue pouring your Spirit out. I pray our hearts are more and more on fire for you.
In Jesus Name, Amen
