This morning during my bible reading I was studying in the book of Ezekiel. I was trying to understand why the Lord had Ezekiel eat the scroll.
“Son of man, listen to what I say to you. Do not join them in their rebellion. Open your mouth, and eat what I give you.””
Ezekiel 2:8 NLT
I had to spend a little more time meditating on that Word. It got me to thinking. The Lord had given Ezekiel a word. Then the prophet had to in-jest the word God had given him, he had to get it deep in his being, before delivering it to the people.
God is showing us the Word must get down deep inside of us. We must digest His Word. He can’t get the Word through you until He can get it down deep inside of you.
“Then he said, “Son of man, go to the people of Israel and give them my messages.”
Ezekiel 3:4 NLT
See Ezekiel was a watchman. He was a prophet who would warn the people of danger. This was a matter of life and death for him and them. God explained if he failed to warn the people, the blood was on his hands. He had to trust God, hear from God, and believe it to be able to deliver what God said to the people.
What if God is trying to get a Word deep in us because there’s someone we are supposed to deliver a word to? If you’re a believer, He is! So many times we read God Words at a fast pace and don’t get what we are supposed to get out of it.
Just like eating, I tend to eat too fast. I don’t chew my food enough. What do we tell young children when they are learning to eat different foods, “chew your food up.” Do you know if you eat too fast it isn’t good for your digestion? Did you know if you don’t chew your food enough you miss out on nutrients?
Just like our food we must take the time to digest God’s Word if we want to get the full benefit of it. Spend time studying and digesting what you are reading.
Can God get His Word deep down inside of you or are missing out on the nutrients, the richness, the depth because your not digesting His Word?
What is God saying to you through His Word today?
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
Joshua 1:8 NKJV
“When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies.”
Jeremiah 15:16 NLT
“It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.”
Isaiah 55:11 NLT
