My last chapter in the book of James. James chapter five talks about the power of prayer. I’m sure many of us would agree there is no doubt power in prayer. I’ve seen the power of prayer in my marriage, over my kids lives and over my life. I’ve seen God answer many prayers. Prayer saved my family.
We can look at Jesus’ life and see He spent a lot of time in prayer. In Luke 5:16 it says, “But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.” He often (frequently, many times) withdrew to the wilderness (uninhabited place, where no one was) to pray. Do we pull ourselves away to pray in a uninhabited place, a place where there is no distraction and no one to interrupt us. Do we make time for that or are we rushed just to get a quick prayer in?
In Luke 6:12 it says, “One day soon afterward Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night.” Again, He got alone and prayed. All night? What if it takes all night to pray our kids through? To pray our marriage is saved? What if it takes numerous nights, numerous years? Will we push through in our praying and not grow weary? Have you ever been awoken in the middle of the night and know it was for you to pray? Sometimes to get our attention God may have to awaken us and it may be in the middle of the night to get us alone, to a quiet place. Jesus spent time in prayer so we know this is a must for us. I’m challenged to look at Jesus’ example and spend more time in prayer.
James 5:16 says, “The prayer of a righteous man are powerful and effective.” When we live a repentant, righteous life then we can be assured our prayers are powerful. Knowing this time spent in prayer will affect our life and our families. I pray we never forget how powerful prayer is. Our families need praying wives, praying moms, praying grandmothers. We must be women of prayer. I pray we all feel a nudge to pray more and be in that prayer closet more.
Sometimes it’s hard to know how and what to pray for people. I have prayer cards made for my husband and kids. I just pray what is on these cards and anything else on my heart. These are prayers I have prayed for years and I have no doubt seen God answer. After praying for my family I turn to my prayer list, anybody that has asked me to pray for them. Prayer is simple, it’s a conversation. Be encouraged to have your prayer time and conversations with God. I am attaching my prayer cards for anybody, that like me, needs a little guidance.
Let us rise up and be prayer warriors on our families behalf!!!
Love you sisters,
Michelle
