Jesus called out to them, “Come, be my disciples, and I will show you how to fish for people!” And they left their nets at once and went with Him.
The disciples response is what shocks me. They left their nets at once and went with Him. They didn’t wait a little bit, finish what they were doing or go home, their response was immediate. It got me to thinking, is there anything I need to walk away from so I can be closer to Him? We are in the Christmas season and the hustle and bustle can get our focus off what’s important. I want to make sure my focus is on Him. Is Jesus calling you to walk away from something to be closer to Him?
There have been times in my life that I felt the Lord nudge me and say stop that and come with me. It could have been as simple as giving up social media or spending my lunch time reading my Bible. There have been times I felt the Lord nudge me to walk away from situations because they were not bringing me closer to Him. I can’t say my response has always been immediate, at times I have tried to rationalize and tell myself I didn’t have to but in the end when I was obedient it always brought me closer to Him and was a time of growth for me.
I long to be closer and closer with the Lord so as I feel the nudge to give up, walk away from something so I can be closer with Him, I’m going to be obedient. I’m going to draw closer to Him, keeping my eyes fixed on Him. I’m making sure this Christmas He is truly the reason for the season. He deserves all my attention because He is not just the reason for the season, He is the reason for our existence!
Lord, help us to be like the disciples and be willing to follow you at any cost. Help us to have that immediate response knowing you know best for us, we trust you Lord. Help us to truly focus and celebrate you this season.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
Your sister in Christ,
Michelle
